New: a character counter that knows your platform's limits

· TextToolbox

A raw character count is only half the answer. What you usually want to know is: does this fit?

Our new character counter answers both questions at once. As you type, you get characters, characters without spaces, words, and lines — and beneath them, live limit bars for the places character counts actually bite: X posts (280), a single SMS segment (160), meta descriptions (~160 displayed), and Instagram captions (2,200). Each bar shifts to a warning color as you approach a limit and turns red the moment you cross it, so you catch the overflow before the platform does.

We’re also honest about what a “character” is. The counter measures UTF-16 units — the unit X and most web forms use — which is why an emoji like 🚀 adds 2 to the tally. The page explains that quirk instead of hiding it.

As always on this hub, everything runs in your browser; nothing you paste is uploaded or logged. And if you run a writing or marketing resource page, the counter is embeddable with a single iframe.
